On Sunday, Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump announced his immigration plan on his website and in the media.  He is the first Republican candidate to set forth such a detailed plan and agenda on immigration.  Donald Trump immigration plan has many flaws and leaves unanswered the process and methodology that will be used to legalize the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.  With regards to Dreamers (those who were brought illegally into the U.S. as minor children) and the DACA benefit granted by President Obama that issued work authorization and an opportunity to attend college, Donald Trump would rescind the DACA benefit.  “The executive order gets rescinded,” Trump said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” of President Barack Obama’s executive order allowing dreamers to remain in the U.S.  With regards to birthright citizenship (child born in the U.S. to illegal parents is a U.S. citizen), Donald Trump immigration plan would try to end birthright citizenship.  With regards to employment based visas for skilled workers hired from abroad, Donald Trump immigration plan would place a “pause” in the issuance of green cards while employers “will have to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed immigrant and native workers.”  With respect to illegal immigration, Donald Trump immigration plan calls for, among other things, construction of a fence on the Southern border; tripling the number of ICE officers; enforcing the E-verify system nationwide; mandatory return of all criminal aliens; detention of all captured illegals leading to deportation; and defunding of sanctuary cities.  While Trump has called for deporting all of the undocumented immigrants in the United States and allowing “the good ones,” to re-enter legally, his policy outline makes no mention of that plan.  Donald Trump immigration plan has the following 3 core principles:

1. A nation without borders is not a nation. There must be a wall across the southern border.

2. A nation without laws is not a nation. Laws passed in accordance with our Constitutional system of government must be enforced.

3. A nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation. Any immigration plan must improve jobs, wages and security for all Americans.
